Our research position
Interpretation is evidence-based work.
Humanities and arts research does not become less rigorous because its objects are historical, cultural, embodied, or contested. Its claims still require clear questions, appropriate methods, accountable evidence, and honest limits.
Threnody supports scholarship that makes its reasoning visible while leaving room for complexity, ambiguity, and genuinely different ways of knowing.
Arts and embodied practice
Critical and practice-informed work on music, dance, performance, visual culture, and material expression.
Philosophy and religious traditions
Comparative and historically informed studies of concepts, values, traditions, and forms of belief.
Sound, media, and public life
Scholarship on listening, sonic cultures, mediation, and the ways cultural experience is shared.

We welcome theoretical, historical, empirical, practice-based, and interdisciplinary work when the relationship between question, material, method, and conclusion is made clear.
Evidence and interpretation
Claims should be proportionate to the evidence, and interpretations should make their assumptions and limits available to readers.
Context and historical responsibility
Research should situate concepts, practices, and cultural forms in the histories and communities that give them meaning.
Interdisciplinarity with discipline
Work may cross fields, but it should retain the methods, vocabulary, and standards needed for meaningful scholarly scrutiny.
A transparent scholarly record
Sources, methods, permissions, conflicts, corrections, and relevant limitations should be reported with care.
